FAQ's

What is the difference between a VISA and a PERMIT?

This is a very important question. The easiest way to understand this is to consider the word PERMISSION as the word PERMIT. Therefore a PERMIT is PERMISSION for an individual to be in New Zealand for a specified period of time if they are not a CITIZEN of the country. Therefore EVERYONE who is NOT a CITIZEN MUST have a PERMIT to be in New Zealand - if they don't have a PERMIT they are considered unlawful.

A VISA on the other hand is a document that "gives immediate authority" to the immigration officer at New Zealand's boarders to grant a predetermined (usually specified on the visa) PERMIT when the individual enters the country. Therefore it is important to understand that no one, unless they are a CITIZEN (or Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Residents) be lawfully in New Zealand unless they have a PERMIT of some sort. The most common types of permits are Holiday Permits, Permanent Residence Permits, Working Permits, Student Permits and Limited Purpose Permits.

Will I have a better chance in obtaining a visa or permit by using an immigration consultant?

The answer is NO with a BUT. The BUT is that for some confounded reason, some individuals tend to try and HIDE certain information like a police convictions as an example, from their applications which result in the visa or permits being refused as a direct result of this dishonesty. A good immigration consultant will NOT submit any dishonest information on your behalf which would normally result in the individual having a far better chance of obtaining a visa or permit. It is the experience and knowledge of the system that makes it beneficial to an individual to use a consultant which will save them time and prevent silly mistakes. Using a consultant however has absolutely no bearing on the final decisions made by Immigration Services.
